Localization

This folder contains all localization workflows and settings that are available while using Collage Site.

Localization refers to the process of positioning and orienting a scan relative to a real-world coordinate system or a CAD/BIM coordinate system so that you can consistently and accurately utilize your scan data for verification, positioning, design, coordination, etc. of construction work. This could mean a survey coordinate system or a project coordinate system, or just data that is relative to other references and stations.

Most of these workflows rely on references to other coordinate systems. These references can be imported as point lists, 2D, and/or 3D geometry into Collage Site.
Instruction on importing references can be found in Import References

If you do not have a digital points list file but do have point coordinates in written form, you can create a blank point layer and the information can also be manually entered into the point layer.

Select a station (newly created stations will be selected automatically) and tap the Localize button to enter the Localize Workflow Selector:

You will need to have your station leveled before you can run any Localization workflows

Please note that targets will not render in Collage Site until the Localization process has been completed. Localization options will differ when connected to a scanner, editing will still be available when not connected to a scanner.

When using a CR-P1, Collage Site detects checkerboards automatically when you place the checkerboards within the suggested range for the CR-P1.

For best possible automatic detection of checkerboards consider the following:

  • The angle of incidence between the laser beam and the checkerboard reference should not be smaller than 45°.
  • The checkerboard target should not be rotated by 45° in relation to the scanner’s axis.
  • The checkerboard reference should not be attached to a curved surface.
  • The distance between the scanner and the references should not be smaller than 1m.
  • Depending on the chosen scanning resolution, the automatic detection of checkerboard references gets unreliable beyond a certain distance to the scanner. E.g. when using A4 checkerboard references and scanning with a resolution of Super Fine(6.1mm), the distance to the scanner should not be greater than 25ft.
