Resection
Resection is a traditional survey methodology for localization in which the instrument is set up anywhere with a clear line of sight to at least two known control points, and both points are measured with a prism or other target. The position and orientation of the instrument is calculated from those measurements.
After having created a new station, choose the Localize option from the right side of the screen. Then, choose the Resection option.
If no point layer exists in the project, the following dialog will be displayed:
Create blank points layer or go back to the workflow panel to import point list in csv format. Please refer Import References for how to import point list file.
On the right side of the screen, you will see the Resection Localization Workflow Panel. In this panel, you can choose to add the scanner’s location as a new control point after resection is completed by checking the Adding result position as a point on the control layer checkbox. It is important to note that you must set the instrument height, like we did in the screenshot above, if you choose this option.
Also, you can create new reference point by tapping button to show the dialog below to specify coordinates as necessary.
Select your first known point by using the drop down in the panel, or by tapping a point graphically in the model pane. Use the Add Reference Point button to add additional points to use for the Resection calculation if necessary.
Once you have entered the points you want to use, tap the Measure Target button for each reference point, one at a time. You will be taken to the target measurement screen. Further instructions to complete the observation can be found at the Target Measurement article.
Once you have measured targets of all reference points, tap the Localize Station button to run the localization process. After the processing is done, the Registration Quality Report will be viewable.
Tap the X button in the top-right corner of the report. Then, the next operable options will be displayed on the Workflow panel.
