Volume Calculations

This page will cover exactly how to use the Volume Calculation feature for Collage Site.

Surface Volume

Inside of the Surface Volume workflow you can calculate cut\fill volume using either the Best Fit or Elevation options.

Best Fit

Selecting BEST FIT prompts you to set your reference plane.

Do this by tapping different points in your point cloud. You will notice that after tapping a point, a reference plane is created. The reference plane will continue adjusting based on the next points you tap. After the 3rd tapped point a heatmap will automatically be applied that matches your newly created reference plane. After the reference plane is established tap the SELECT AREA button. Using a series of taps draw a polygon around the location you wish to have your cut\fill volume calculated.

Please note that when establishing your points the lines should NOT be crossed

This is an example of a correctly set Volume Calculation

This is an example of an improper Volume Calculation, and will fail to process

Once you are happy with your selections tap the GET VOLUME button to run your analysis. When completed you will see a summary appear

Elevation

Selecting ELEVATION will prompt you to set a reference plane based on an elevation value.

To do this you can either manually type an elevation value into the blank text box, or use the point selection button by tapping it and then tapping a point in your point cloud. Once the desired elevation reference plan is set tap SET ELEVATION. After the reference plane is established tap the SELECT AREA button if it has not been automatically selected for you. Using a series of taps draw a polygon around the location you wish to have your cut\fill volume calculated.

Please note that when establishing your points the lines should NOT be crossed

see example above

Once you are happy with your selections tap the GET VOLUME button to run your analysis.

Volume Preferences

Tap the gear icon above the GET VOLUME button to establish preferences for your desired calculations.

Surface Policy

Lowest This setting will use the lowest elevation point in your point cloud as a reference. Best used when you need the volume underneath something, like vegetation.

Highest This setting use the highest elevation point in your point cloud as a reference. Best used when you need the volume above something

Average This setting will use the average of both highest and lowest points in your point cloud as a reference.

Most Central This setting will use the center most point in your point cloud as a reference.

These settings will only apply to the points within your active selected area

Reference Plane Settings

Bounded

For bounded planes, the volume will only be calculated for within the bounds of the plane.

Unbounded

For unbounded planes, the volume will be calculated for all area within the selected area.

Reports

Once the processing is completed, the report will give you the results as well as an option to see the report preview.

The report preview may be downloaded into a CSV file

Stockpile

Inside of the Stockpile workflow you can calculate your total area and volume of your selected location.

Once inside the Stockpile menu you will be prompted to establish your Ground Sample Distance. The metrics for these will be taken directly from the established unit preferences in the Preferences Tab

To start, you must first tap the SELECT AREA button. Once activeated you will need to tap at least 3 different points in your pointcloud. Please note that if the boundary lines cross, the calculation will fail. Once you have established the boundaries you desire, tap the GET VOLUME button to begin processing.

Once processing has completed you will see the summary report.

You will then have the ability to tap the Report Preview button to bring the report up. From here that report may be downloaded

A new layer will appear in the Layers tab, and you will now have a visualization of the area
