Resource Control Tool
The Collage Site Resource Controller is a graphical user interface application that allows you to adjust a few different parameters of your Collage Site processing preferences. Additionally, you have ability to migrate project data from WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) to your Windows partition.
After Collage Site has installed, you can then use the Resource Controller to establish some preferences. You can find this by searching Collage Site Resource Controller in the Windows search bar.
This image shows the Resource Controller once it has launched. Please be aware that the defaults are tailored to the resources of the machine you’ve installed Collage Site onto, so your RAM Limit may be set to a different initial default amount than the screenshot above.
This slider will allow you to determine the amount of RAM that Collage Site will use for processing. Adjusting this tool will affect the speed at which Collage Site is able to process scan data and other tasks. We currently recommend allocating at LEAST 7GB of memory here.
Please only allocate 75% of your RAM maximum in the Resource Control tool. If you allocate more than 75% of your RAM, you will experience degradation of certain Collage Site and Windows Operating System features.
This slider will allow you to determine the maximum allowed size of the Collage Site virtual partition on your physical disk. The default and minimum size of this partition is 256GB, but you are able to increase the size of the partition to fit your needs. This partition holds the Collage Site docker images that perform processing of data, any saved projects and scans you have in Collage Site, as well as facilitates processing of data in real-time.
NOTE: You need to ensure you do not go past this partition limit. When you are nearing the maximum capacity of the partition size, Collage Site will warn you that you have less than 25GB of space left on the partition. Please understand that processes can temporarily take up several GB of space in the partition, so if you are nearing the maximum limit you have set for the partition, it would be wise to remove projects you are not currently working in from your Collage Site projects library.
To see how much storage is remaining in your Collage Site partition, you can tap the Disk Icon at the top of the application (screenshot above). This number will also update in real-time, based on the amount of remaining space in the partition.
BREACHING THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF THE PARTITION WILL RISK FILE CORRUPTION OF ALL COLLAGE SITE DATA
The Collage Site Resource Controller will also allow you to “Optimize” your virtual partition incase you would like to shrink the partition to free up space for other files on your machine. If you need to make space on your partition, delete any unused projects in your Collage Site library. Then, run the Collage Site Resource Controller. Choosing the Optimize button will cause your partition to be cleared of any remaining project files that were deleted from your local Collage Site library. This will shrink the overall size of the partition, allowing you more processing/project room.
Deleting Projects
When deleting projects, it is important to note that simply deleting a projects from the Projects page will not eliminate the layer data (scans, control points, 3D geometry etc). To fully delete a project, first delete the project from the Projects page, then select Layers from the Home dropdown menu. Filter this page by Orphaned Layers Only. This will allow you to only see the layers that are now “orphaned”, because they no longer belong to the project you deleted. Delete these layers to completely delete the project data.
Migrating Data using the Resource Control Tool
If you currently have Collage Site related files stored on the partition created by Collage Site version 1.2 or earlier instead of in the C:/CollageDB folder, the Resource Control tool will detect this change. This will add a new Migrate Project Files to Windows button to the top of the Resource Control Tool Dialog. To continue using Collage Site versions 1.3 or later, you will want to press this button to transfer your files away from the WSL partition that was used to store data in earlier versions of Collage Site over to your native Windows storage. If you do not currently have any Collage Site related files stored on the partition created by Collage Site then your Resource Control Tool will not populate the new button.
After selecting the Migrate Project Files to Windows button, the system checks if migration is possible. If there is not enough space to migrate projects, then the following error will appear (screenshot below). Additionally the status bar will say Data migration failed!
If you have enough space to continue with the migration, the buttons and sliders in the Resource Control Tool dialog will disappear and a loading bar should appear. Please allow this loading bar to complete in its entirety. If, by the end of the process, you receive a Data migration failed! error instead of it saying Data migration complete! then contact your most direct support representative.
Once migration is complete the Resource Control Tool will hide the migration button, the loading bar will disappear, and the normal buttons and sliders will be visible again within the dialog.
