Link Station

This article will cover how to add links between stations in Collage Site.

When you tap on the Link Station button, the side panel will update showing two drop-down menus to select the two stations you want to create a link between.

Alternatively, you can tap or click on stations within the project view panel to add them.

Once you have added a station on screen or via the drop down menu, the station name will be shown in the right workflow panel.

Add a second station to proceed:

Once you have added a second station, the link marker is displayed in the view and the cloud to cloud registration options are no longer disabled. Select from the options to proceed with registering the two stations together.

  • Manual Initial Alignment: Manually align the two scans to each other as a starting point for the cloud to cloud constraint.
  • Auto Initial Alignment: Tell the software to guess an initial alignment based on features in the scan data, after which it will run the quick cloud-to-cloud algorithm using that guess as the starting point.
  • Quick C2C In Place: Uses the current alignment of the scans in the project as the starting point for the cloud to cloud constraint.

After completing a link and running one of the Alignment options, you will be met with a screen that provides you some basic metrics as they pertain to the link that you just created. Those metrics are defined as follows:

Overlap: When the C2C algorithm is run, Collage Site looks at one of the scans, and then compares the matching points from the other scan that is selected. How many corresponding points are found between both scans will determine the overlap percentage. The higher percentage of overlap, the better chance you have of getting favorable results.

Strength: This value tells you how confident Collage Site was with the result of the C2C between the scans. Closer to 100% is best.

Distance: This value shows the RMS error between the two scans that you are you linking.
