Upgrade Sparse Scans

This article will cover the Upgrade Sparse Scans workflow which allows you to improve the density of your scans in Collage Site for more precise registration.

To accelerate data transfer and scan processing in the in-field scan workflows, Collage Site has an option in the scan setting panel to transfer sparse scan data to the field software. This will transfer a light weight point cloud to your tablet in-field, with an option to upgrade the density of the scans once you are back at the office.

If you use Sparse Scan option in the in-field scan workflows, sparse scans should be upgraded to full resolution scan prior to exporting or publishing, as you will be missing data otherwise.

The Upgrade sparse scan process will upgrade every scan in your project. Because of this,we recommend you perform the Upgrade sparse scan workflow after your scan work is complete in the field.

Preparation

First, remove the SD card from the scanning instrument and insert it to your computer. Then, find and zip the entire project folder on the SD card and save it somewhere locally on your computer.

*If your computer doesn’t have SD card slot, you need to get SD card reader for USB.

Select project file

Go to the Import Workflows selector panel from the main Workflow tab, and tap the Upgrade Sparse Scans button. The following dialog will open:

Tap the import box to open a file explorer, and from there select your zipped project file.

Scan processing options

Tap Next and configure the scan processing options.
Once you’ve specified the options, tap Next. Then review the summary and Import and Process.

Please refer Process Scan page to see scan procssing options in detail.

The import process is intelligent enough to recognize each station and scan, and it will only import and process data that is missing from the Collage Site project.
