Piping Exports

All export options for Pipe models.

Revit

Click Export to Revit to export a .c3rvt file. This is a proprietary file type that can only be loaded into Revit using the EdgeWise Revit plugin. The plugin is automatically installed to any supported years of Revit during installation of the EdgeWise software. Using the plugin, EdgeWise will import a fully intelligent file into Revit.

Before creating the export file within EdgeWise, make sure the Revit Families column is defined in the Chain Info Smartsheet. The EdgeWise piping module can export a pipe family, duct family, or conduit family. If you are exporting a conduit or duct, we recommend using a custom conduit or duct standard. The custom standard workflow can be found here.

Cylinders

All cylinders, of all standards (out of box or custom) will export over to Revit, even if they are not standardized. Cylinders export as pipes by default, unless modified in the Chain Info Smartsheet to duct or conduit in the Revit Family column.

Connections

Elbows (including elbow bend radius), Tees, and Reducers can be exported to Revit. Connections that will FAIL to export include: Y-connections, reducing elbows, and straight connections. Straight connections will need to be cleaned using the clean pipes tool before they can be exported into Revit.

Valves and Flanges

We recommend exporting generic valves and flanges over into Revit. Revit has a much larger library of valves and flanges built out, and it is best to export a generic type from EdgeWise and swap it inside of Revit. Please note that in older versions of EdgeWise, valves and flanges do not export over into Revit. If you are seeing this issue, please update to the latest version found here.

AutoCAD

EdgeWise can export multiple file types that can import into AutoCAD: STEP, DXF, and COE.

STEP files are native AutoCAD files. This means no third party plugin will need to be installed to import your model. This is the recommended piping export format.

DXF files are also native AutoCAD files. With the DXF files, you may choose to either export the Centerlines or Routing Lines of an EdgeWise pipe model.

COE files will need a third party plugin installed. The plugin can be found located here. A COE file will export layer information which is defined in the Chain Info Smartsheet within EdgeWise.

Cylinders

All cylinder geometry can be exported into AutoCad.

Connections

Elbows (including elbow bend radius), Tees, and Reducers can be exported into AutoCAD. Connections that do NOT export include: Y-connections, reducing elbows, and straight connections. Straight connections will need to be cleaned before they will come into AutoCAD.

Valves and Flanges

Valve and flange geometry can be exported into AutoCAD. We recommend exporting general valves and flanges and swapping them out with proper valves and flanges using AutoCAD’s tools.

Plant3D

To export into Plant3D Edgewise will export a .c3p3d file. Setting up Plant3D can be a little tricky, make sure to follow this guide Setting Up Plant3D Plugin if you are running into issues.

Cylinders

Pipes only export to Plant3D with an ASME or DIN standard applied.

Connections

Elbows (including elbow Bend radius), Tees, and reducers will export properly. Y-connections, reducing elbows, and straight connections will fail to export. Straight connections will need to be cleaned before they will come into Plant3D.

Valves and Flanges

Only valves and flanges with ASME or DIN specs applied will export.

AVEVA E3D

Click Export to Aveva E3D to create a .mac (macro) file. This macro file can be brought into Aveva E3D as generic equipment. If you wish to create intelligent pipes, you can use the PEMOSE EdgeWise plug-in to convert the pipes from equipment to native pipes within E3D. To do this, you will need to have checked the box for EdgeWise Intelligent Pipes option when exporting the macro file.
