Network USB License

This article will cover server setup, activation, and client configuration for a new Network USB License.

Server Setup

Network keys are generally attached to a ‘host’ server, then accessed by client (end-user) machines connected to the same network as that server.

Once you receive the USB key in the mail, follow the steps below to configure your host server and the license key for activation.

License Environment Installation

If you do not intend to run the EdgeWise software on the server and only need to host the license there, you can use license-only activation to install the necessary licensing environment, then activate the license through a file exchange with our licensing administrator.

You will use a different installer than the standard EdgeWise Installer executable. Please download and unzip this folder: EdgeWiseSoftwareLockNetworkSetup.zip

The folder will contain 3 files for setting up the license environment:

-haspdinst_EdgeWise.exe
-Haspdinst_Runner.bat
-RUS-EWLicenseTool.exe

Once the folder is unzipped, right click the Haspdinst_Runner.bat file and Run as administrator to install the licensing environment. You should see a pop-up window stating ‘Operation successfully completed’ once installation of the licensing environment is complete.

Full Installation

In this circumstance, EdgeWise will need to be fully installed prior to license activation. This is usually only performed if users will be using a remote desktop connection to access EdgeWise on the server itself instead of pulling a license seat to use on their own machines.

When installing EdgeWise, we recommend adjusting the Licensing Additional Tasks by marking the Force Install License Environment checkbox, and unmarking Launch Licensing Utility checkbox, as shown below. For this type of license activation, we recommend using a file exchange for activation as opposed to an activation code, so the Licensing Utility window is not necessary.

Once the EdgeWise installation is complete, follow the File Collection steps below to activate the license key.

Should you experience any error messages or unexpected behavior in the activation process, please check the License Troubleshooting articles, or email support@clearedge3d.com with screenshots of the error message(s).

File Collection

Online

Once the licensing environment is installed, you will have access to the Sentinel Admin Control Center, the online license manager. To collect an activation .C2V file there, follow these steps:

  • Ensure the USB key shipped from ClearEdge3D is inserted in a compatible USB port.
  • Navigate to the Sentinel ACC page linked above, and locate the listing for your USB key- EdgeWise is Vendor 91033.
  • At the far right of the EdgeWise key listing, there will be a C2V button. Left-click this button to generate and save an activation .C2V file.
  • Email the saved .C2V file to Licensing@ClearEdge3D.com, noting your company name and the need to activate a new USB key. We will return a .V2C file with instructions for applying it. Reference the Applying the License File section below for more information.

RUS Tool

Rather than using the online license manager to generate a .C2V file, you can opt to use the local tool included in the EdgeWiseSoftwareLockNetworkSetup.zip folder linked above.

  • Windows search for “EdgeWise RUS-LicenseTool”, or use a file explorer to navigate to the file path where you placed the EdgeWiseSoftwareLockNetworkSetup.zip folder and open the RUS-EWLicenseTool.exe.
  • Select the Installation of new protection key bubble at the bottom of the RUS Tool, then click the Collect Information button to generate and save the .C2V file.
  • Email the saved .C2V file to Licensing@ClearEdge3D.com, noting your company name and the need to activate a new USB key. We will return a .V2C file with instructions for applying it. Reference the Applying the License File section below for more information.

Applying the License File

Once the necessary .C2V file has been received by our licensing department, it will be used to program your license key and generate a .V2C file for you to apply. The .V2C file will be sent as an attachment in response to the email containing your .C2V file, and should be downloaded to the computer where it will be applied.

Online

  • Open a web browser and navigate to the Sentinel Update/Attach page.
  • Use the Select File… button to browse for and select the .V2C file emailed to you by our Licensing team.
  • Use the Apply File button to apply the .V2C and activate your license. The web page should show you a message stating “Update successfully applied!”
  • License activation is now complete, but end-user machines will need to undergo the Client Setup steps detailed below.

RUS Tool

  • Windows search for “EdgeWise RUS-LicenseTool”, or use a file explorer to navigate to the file path where you placed the EdgeWiseSoftwareLockNetworkSetup.zip folder and open the RUS-EWLicenseTool.exe.
  • Select the Apply License File tab, then click the “” button at the bottom right button to browse for and select the .V2C file emailed to you by our Licensing team.
  • Click the Apply Update button.
  • License activation is now complete, but end-user machines will need to undergo the Client Setup steps detailed below.

Client Setup

Before any Client configuration can be performed, the user will need to install EdgeWise on their local machine. For this type of license configuration, we recommend using the Additional Tasks settings pictured below, as the Licensing Utility window is not necessary.

Fig 5: Installation checkboxes

Once installation is complete and the license has been activated on the server, you should configure the client machines that will be accessing the hosted license over the network. This can be done in the Sentinel Admin Control Center/online license manager.

  • Ensure that the client machine is connected to the same network as the server hosting the license.
  • On the client machine, use a web browser to navigate to the Sentinel ACC Configuration page.
  • Check the Allow Access to Remote Licenses checkbox. While not required, we also recommend UNchecking the Broadcast Search checkbox.
  • In the Remote License Search Parameters box, place the IP address or FQDN of the server hosting the license.
  • Click Submit, then click Sentinel Keys at the top left of the page.

Fig 6: Client Configuration in Sentinel ACC

On the Sentinel Keys page, the key information should now be visible, and the Location should indicate the server machine name.

Fig 7: Confirm connection to license server

This indicates a complete configuration, and EdgeWise should now run on the client machine as expected.

Should you experience any error messages or unexpected behavior in the activation process, please check the License Troubleshooting articles, or email support@clearedge3d.com with screenshots of the error message(s).
