Edgewise Import

This article covers the Edgewise Import tools for importing models created in EdgeWise.

What is EdgeWise™?

EdgeWise is an as-built modeling platform that uses advanced algorithms to automate tedious scan-to-BIM workflows. It models as-built pipes, structural elements, ducts, walls, conduit, and cable trays from mobile and terrestrial point clouds significantly faster than traditional manual modeling techniques—all while improving the accuracy of the model.

What is different?

The EdgeWise import beta should give the same import results as the current version of the EdgeWise plugin but faster and more flexible. It uses a more modern plugin architecture for better long term support.

When importing EdgeWise models into Revit, the old plugin added EdgeWise Revit® families to the project that were unnecessary (ie, ducting families when only importing piping). Now, only necessary families are added. This also adds better support for international versions of Revit.

Installing the EdgeWise Import Beta

Select the EdgeWise Plugin for Revit® (Beta) component as part of the install process.

Installer Options

Exporting from EdgeWise

With any model open in EdgeWise, navigate to the File tab. On the far right-hand side you will see a Export to Revit® button.

Export

Upon clicking this button, a File Explorer window will open. Here, you can name your .c3rvt file. This file type is proprietary to EdgeWise and allows the file to communicate with the Revit® API. After naming your file, click Save. Now your file is ready for import into Revit.

Importing in Revit

Now that you have your .c3rvt file is ready, open Revit. Once open, navigate to the EdgeWise Import (Beta) tab. On the far left-hand side of this tab click the Open Model button.

Open Model Button

After clicking this button, a File Explorer window will appear. Navigate to your .c3rvt file, select it, and click Open. From here, the importer will proceed with its next steps depending on the model you are importing.
