Frequently Asked Questions
- How do floating licenses work now?
Floating licenses replace traditional network licenses and are managed in the cloud. Team members can access licenses from any location without being connected to a company network.
- Is this licensing transition mandatory if I have a perpetual license?
No. If you have a perpetual license, you can continue using the versions of EdgeWise it is currently valid for, up to version 5.9, without making any changes. If you choose to renew maintenance in the future, you will need to transition to the new identity-based licensing system to access versions beyond EdgeWise 5.10. Starting with EdgeWise 5.10.1, the legacy licensing system will no longer be supported.
- Can we continue using a shared workstation that multiple users access?
Yes. This workflow is still supported. The main difference is that licensing is now tied to user login rather than a specific hardware ID. Multiple users can still access the software on a shared machine by signing in with their own accounts.
- Will dongle-based licenses continue to work?
Yes, for now. Existing dongles will continue to work with current and previous software versions. However, future versions of EdgeWise and Verity will phase out dongle-based licensing. Dongles will not be supported in those future releases. If you need installers for older versions, ClearEdge3D Support can provide them upon request.
- Will an internet connection be required?
An internet connection is currently required to sign in and out of the licensing system. ClearEdge3D is actively exploring offline-use options for future releases.
