Start here for the basics on using EdgeWise to improve accuracy and efficiency in your scan-to-BIM modeling workflow.
See the linked articles for more information on EdgeWise workflows, tools, and tips.
Process Scans
Convert your registered point cloud into an EdgeWise Point Database and take advantage of Automated Model Extraction.
Automated Extraction
EdgeWise can automatically find and generate Pipes and Walls while converting your point cloud; customize your settings in the Process Scans Options menu.
Semi-automated Extraction
Use the Extract tool to quickly model pipes, walls, structural steel, ducting, and cable trays, automatically fitted and sized to the point cloud.
QA/QC
Open the SmartSheet to Adjust, Resize, and Refit items. For pipe models, click QA mode to take advantage of extra guidance and a down-the-barrel view of the pipe’s fit against the point cloud.
Connections
Use Easy Connect or the Connectors tool to quickly add connections between pipes. Add radius/mitered elbows, transitions, and joins between duct or cable tray segments with one click.
Pattern Extract
Automatically model repeated patterns in structure, duct, and cable tray models. Extract and instance of the pattern, then let Pattern Extract search the rest of the pattern and place corresponding best-fit elements for you.
Model Refinement
Take advantage of the tools like Clean Pipes, Extend, Copy Size, Snapping, Rotate, and more, offering flexibility between as-built or more orthogonal models depending on your project’s needs.
Final Touches
Apply Standards and Pressure Ratings, add valve and flange shapes, and assign Revit family types to pipe chains. Utilize the layer/level column to group pipe chains or other elements, and use multi-edit in the SmartSheet to make bulk changes.
Export
Export to common formats like STEP and PCF, or leverage our integration with softwares like Revit, Plant3D, AVEVA E3D, and more. Use SmartPoints to export points close to your modeled geometry, or Remainder Cloud to track areas that haven’t been modeled.
