File Tab

Article covering tools available in the File tab of EdgeWise.

Convert

Split PTX

This is used to split scans in your PTX files. This is no longer required for process scans as EdgeWise has been updated to process these files directly. This button should only be used in the event that a subset of the scans in the file need to be processed.

E57 to PTX

This can be used to change E57 files into PTX files. This is no longer required for process scans as EdgeWise has been updated to process these files directly.

Process Scans

See the dedicated Process Scans articles for detailed information on this tool.

Model

Blank Model

This button will allow you to create a blank model of any models EdgeWise can work with. These models include Pipes, Structure, Ducting, Cable Trays, and Building.

Merge Parts

While setting up Process Scans, by default you will have certain boxes that already have a check. Some of these include the Automatically Merge Model check boxes. These boxes are visible for Pipes, Ground, and the Legacy version of Building.

Fig 2: Ground merging checkbox

(Legacy) Fig 3: Planes merging checkbox

Each of these algorithms, at first, will create .c3pipes, .c3ground, or .c3planes files respectively. However, these files will not load into EdgeWise, they must first be merged into a usable file for EdgeWise to open them. These usable files would be: .c3m (pipes), .c3gm (ground), or .c3bldg (building) respectively. Using this tool is unnecessary as long as Automatically Merging had a check during Process Scans.

However, if you uncheck this option, or for some reason the merging process doesn’t happen, you can use the manual tool which is located under the File tab.

Fig 4: Merge Parts Tools

Merge Parts effectively allows you to perform the automatic action manually. Navigate to the Merge Parts drop down menu and select the appropriate option. EdgeWise will then open a file explorer. Locate your Component files (these are in parenthesis in the screenshot above), and click Open to begin the process.

Note: ONLY use this tool if your Component Files don’t become a loadable model automatically during Process Scans. You should always check the Automatically Merging check boxes.

Open Model

Opens a previously saved model. Can be used to bring in multiple models at once.

Remove Model

Removes the currently selected model within the Model Selection Pane.

Recover

Used to recover auto-saved files. EdgeWise will auto-save files periodically and this can be used in instances of a crash or power outage. These auto-saved files can be found in the following file path: C:\Users<USER>\Documents\ClearEdge3D\EdgeWise\AutoSaves

Merge/Split .c3m

  • Merge .c3m files

Merges multiple .c3m (pipes) files into one .c3m file.

  • Split pipes by layer

Splits your current .c3m file into multiple .c3m files by the layer/level information set up in the Chain Info Smartsheet
