Getting Started

This article is designed to provide some answers to frequently asked questions about licensing within our software EdgeWise, and Verity + Rithm. These three pieces of software all use the Sentinel Licensing System provided by Gemalto. While this article may provide some answers to frequently asked questions regarding licensing, it is by no means exhaustive. We hope to update this article over time to further provide quick support and answers.

Can I activate my node-locked license more than once?

Most of the time the answer to this question is no. In most cases, if we send out multiple licenses to a single user, they will have different activation codes, therefore, the same activation code cannot be used more than once. This is also true for cases where we send out an individual license; that activation code can also only be used once. This is why it’s important to activate the license on the proper machine the first time. Once the license is activated, it cannot be used anymore.

This is also true for c2v > v2c license file exchanges. In these cases, you the user, send us a c2v file and we send back a corresponding v2c file. This v2c file can not be applied more than once. The RUS license tool will simply say that the file has already been applied.

If you are in the situation where you are unable to activate a license because the quantity remaining is 0, and you think this is by mistake, first ensure that no one else in your organization activated the license by accident. If you are still having issues, please contact support@clearedge3d.com

How do I transfer my node-locked license to another machine?

Currently, license transfers cannot be performed on client-side; they must go through our licensing admin. The third tab in the RUS-LicenseTool is therefore unused and will not allow you to perform a transfer.

To begin the process of transferring a license, contact licensing@clearedge3d.com. Refer to EdgeWise Software Lock Network License article or the Verity Network License article under the License Transfers sections for steps to begin the transfer process.

Keep in mind, we traditionally perform license transfers for reasons such as moving to a new server because one is being retired, or one employee has moved positions and another is taking their license. We do not perform license transfers on an hourly, daily, or other short-term time frames for users to swap a license back and forth. At that point, an additional license/seat should be considered. Contact your Sales Representative for more information.

I was emailed a license activation code, but I don’t have the tool to activate it, how do I address this?

When we produce licenses through our licensing system, an email will automatically be sent to you containing the license activation code as well as a write-up on the activation process for both standalone and network licenses. In the case of network licenses, we traditionally do a file transfer instead. Why do we do this? The activation code tool is only included in the ClearEdge3D application, while the RUS-LicenseTool that we use to transfer files back and forth to apply a license, can be downloaded on the machine without having to install the ClearEdge3D application. This is a much more lightweight option.

Refer to the EdgeWise Software Lock Network License article or the Verity Network License article under the Server Setup sections for steps to do this.
